Initial Message
Last updated: May 15, 2026
Here you will find all tips and tricks for a good initial message from your AI. The initial message is configured independently from your AI's main prompt. If you update or delete your prompt, you must also manually update the initial message separately to ensure consistency.
Whenever your AI starts a conversation, it begins with a predefined message. You can set this in the Initial Message section.
It is especially important to choose a message that is as short as possible. The goal is to encourage the caller to quickly state their concern and engage in the conversation.
Avoid long and detailed initial messages. These make the caller feel like they have reached an answering machine. Many callers then hang up immediately.
Your initial message should be as brief as possible and prompt the caller to start the conversation and explain their concern right away. This ensures that the call is not ended prematurely.
Important: Due to phone connection timing, callers may miss the first 1-2 words of your initial message. The AI begins speaking as soon as the connection establishes on its side, but the caller's phone connection can take up to 1 second longer to fully establish. To ensure callers hear your complete greeting, avoid putting critical information in the very first words.
A good example:
“Hello, this is your virtual receptionist. How can I help you?”
Tip: Notice how this example starts with a simple “Hello” — if the caller misses this first word due to connection timing, they’ll still hear the complete introduction starting with “this is your virtual receptionist.”
