Set Up Call Forwarding
Last updated: May 15, 2026
In this guide, we will show you how to automatically forward calls to your personal AI assistant. We will cover both unconditional and conditional call forwarding and explain how to forward calls to your AI number!
Important: You are forwarding calls from your existing phone number to your fonio AI number. Direct assignment or transfer of your existing number to fonio is not possible.
Types of Call Forwarding
Before we start with the step-by-step instructions, here is a brief overview of the two different types of call forwarding:
Unconditional Call Forwarding: All calls are forwarded immediately.
Conditional Call Forwarding: Calls are only forwarded if you are unreachable or decline the call.
All clear? Then let's set up the appropriate call forwarding for your AI phone assistant together!
1. Unconditional Call Forwarding
iOS
Open the Settings app
Tap on "Phone"
Select "Call Forwarding"
Enable "Call Forwarding" and enter your fonio AI assistant's number under "Forward To"
Android
Open the Phone app
Tap the three dots (⋮) for more options
Select "Settings" and then "Calls"
Tap "Call Forwarding" and choose the desired option
Enter your fonio AI assistant's number and confirm
Note: The exact steps may vary slightly depending on your Android version and device manufacturer.
2. Conditional Call Forwarding
If you want to forward calls only when you are absent, after a certain time, or if you are already on a call, you can set this directly via the dial pad on your smartphone (iOS and Android):
Activate Call Forwarding
Forward all calls (unconditional):
**21*Target-Phone-Number#Forward only when you are on a call:
**67*Target-Phone-Number#Forward only when you do not answer:
**62*Target-Phone-Number#Forward only after a specific waiting time (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 seconds):
**61*Target-Phone-Number*Time#
Best Practice for FritzBox Users: When configuring call forwarding from a FritzBox to your Fonio AI assistant, set the forwarding delay (Rufumleitung) to approximately 10 seconds. This provides adequate time for the system to handle the call transfer properly.
Deactivate Call Forwarding
Turn off all call forwarding:
##21#Turn off call forwarding when busy:
##67#Turn off call forwarding when not answered:
##62#Turn off delayed call forwarding:
##61#
Note
Important: For many mobile providers, you need to set up call forwarding via their respective app or website.
Find your Fonio number: You can find your AI assistant's number in the fonio platform under "Assistants" → select your assistant → click the "Phone Numbers" button (top right). If no number is available yet, you can purchase a fonio number directly there.
Practical Example
To illustrate, here is an example: The call is only forwarded to the AI number if the caller had to wait at least 25 seconds:
Red: Code for time-dependent call forwarding
Green: Phone number to which the call is forwarded after 25 seconds (the AI phone assistant's number)
Blue: Code for the waiting time in seconds before the call is forwarded
Caller ID Transmission During Forwarding
Problem: When forwarding via mobile providers, the original caller number is often not transmitted. The AI then sees your mobile number instead of the real caller number.
Solution: Fonio now forwards calls with the original caller's number by default. No manual configuration is needed in the fonio interface.
If the original number is still not transmitted, this is due to the mobile provider. In this case, a SIP connection of your number to fonio is recommended.
